Pool Enclosure Benefits
Premium pool and patio enclosures from a Czech manufacturer with over 20 years of tradition.
A pool enclosure you open from your phone
POPP International has been making pool and patio enclosures in Velké Bílovice since 2006. We offer our customers 19 models, 5 high, 9 low and 5 custom types. Thanks to developing our own profiles, we also build atypical structures. We were the first in Europe to introduce an integrated solar drive with app control that works entirely without a power supply. With the PRESTIGE P8 model we won a Red Dot Award for the user solution.
Why cover your pool
Longer season
An enclosure extends the season to 7 months (April–October). The sealed segments keep the air temperature around 10 °C higher.
Clean, warm water
The water is 5 to 8 °C warmer. The structure prevents heat loss, keeps dirt out and shortens maintenance.
Safety
The lockable structure forms a solid barrier against falling into the water and keeps children and animals out.
Cost savings
The enclosure prevents water evaporation and reduces energy and chemical consumption. The annual saving is CZK 3,000 to 10,000.
Types of pool enclosures
High enclosure
With a height from 180 cm it creates a covered space where you can stand up or place loungers.
Low enclosure
Models from 35 cm do not block the view. With a 30 cm gap above the water they still allow swimming.
Custom solutions
Custom-made structures adapt to the plot. They can be connected directly to the façade, a retaining wall or a slope.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a pool enclosure cost?
The final amount always depends on the specific dimensions, the type of construction and the chosen equipment. To give you a basic idea, we have put together a few indicative examples:
- POPP arched enclosure: Smaller two-segment models start at CZK 150,000.
- LIVING range (a practical and economical solution): A classic arched enclosure (for a 6×3 m pool, 3 segments) starts at CZK 170,000. The high version of this range starts at CZK 250,000.
- PRESTIGE range (the technological and visual flagship): A high enclosure (for an 8×4 m pool, 4 segments) starts at CZK 700,000.
Important information on prices and VAT: All prices listed include installation but are quoted without VAT. The final VAT rate (usually 12% or 21% under Czech law) is always assessed individually according to the specific parameters of your build and the applicable tax legislation.
We will gladly calculate the exact price for you – just send us a non-binding enquiry with your requirements.
How much space do I need around the pool?
To slide the enclosure back comfortably and completely, you need to allow enough space around the pool:
- Space behind the pool: To move the folded segments fully clear of the water, allow at least 2.5 metres of free space (ideally 3 metres).
- Space along the pool: The running rails along the longer sides need roughly 0.4 to 1 metre. The exact figure depends on the specific type and size of the enclosure you choose.
Do I need a building permit for a pool enclosure?
In most cases no. Under Annex 1 of the Czech Building Act (No. 283/2021 Coll.), a free-standing enclosure at a family house counts as a minor structure that requires no permit, provided it meets all of the following at once:
- up to 40 m² of built-up area and up to 5 m in height, no more than one above-ground storey
- at least 2 m from the property boundary
- at least 50% of the plot remains able to absorb rainwater once it is in place
- it relates to housing and is not used for business
- it complies with the municipality's zoning plan
The pool itself is assessed separately — a minor structure up to 40 m² of built-up area, at least 2 m from the property boundary. If the enclosure is structurally and functionally connected to the house, it may count as an extension, which does require a permit. The specific assessment always rests with the locally competent building authority; the information here is indicative and does not replace its opinion.
A low or a high enclosure?
How to choose exactly the right type for your needs, and how high an enclosure can be:
- Low enclosures (from 45 cm): The ideal choice if you do not want to block the view of your garden. Our lowest model, FLOW, is just 35 cm high on a three-segment pool (6.37 × 4.0 m).
- Swimming under a low enclosure: You can swim comfortably under these models too. What matters is at least 30 cm of space between the water surface and the structure. So it always depends on how high the water level reaches (whether you have a skimmer or an overflow pool).
- High enclosures (from 180 cm): A great solution for anyone who wants to stand up comfortably under the structure, get changed, or create a covered seating area by the pool.
Will the enclosure withstand strong wind and snow?
For safety and a long service life we recommend clearing snow off the structure during heavy snowfall. In strong wind, all segments must always be firmly locked in place.
Depending on its type and size, each of our enclosures has a clearly defined resistance class for snow load (SK) and wind load (WK). You will always find the exact values in the technical data sheet for the specific model.
Examples of resistance for the LIVING range (parameters for the size: internal width 385 cm, internal length 865 cm, 4 segments):
- SELEKT model: snow up to 25 kg/m² | wind up to 19 km/h
- KOMFORT model: snow up to 50 kg/m² | wind up to 61 km/h
- PERFEKT model: snow up to 75 kg/m² | wind up to 117 km/h
- KLASIK model: snow up to 100 kg/m² | wind up to 88 km/h
What warranty do we provide?
We design and manufacture our enclosures directly at our plant in Velké Bílovice. That also lets us guarantee fast service and easy availability of spare parts long after the warranty ends.
We provide a standard 24-month warranty on all enclosures. And because we stand behind our technology and materials, we also offer extended guarantees:
- 3-year warranty on all electrical components in models with a motor drive.
- 10-year warranty on the flawless function and reliability of the running wheels.
How long do manufacturing and installation take?
The usual delivery time from order confirmation is about 2 months. It depends on our current production capacity, so we recommend arranging your enquiry well in advance — especially before the main swimming season starts.
Thanks to careful prefabrication, the installation in your garden is then very quick:
- Standard enclosure: We usually complete the entire installation within 3 hours.
- Custom solutions and more complex projects: Installation takes 1 to 2 days.
How does the solar drive work and what if the sun isn't shining?
The solar panel is discreetly integrated directly into the structure of the enclosure. That makes the system completely independent of the mains, and you do not have to run any cables to the pool.
How many times a day can I open and close the pool? The battery capacity ensures completely carefree operation. To give you an idea (calculated for a 4-segment enclosure 4.5 m wide), the drive manages the following number of full cycles (1 cycle = opening and closing completely):
- In the summer season (May–August): 4 to 8 cycles a day (depending on whether the pool is in the shade or in the sun).
- Out of season (September–October): 3 to 6 cycles a day.
These figures are indicative and always depend on the specific size of the enclosure, the type of running gear and the intensity of the sun.
How does charging work? The panel charges the battery continuously, even under cloud. What is more, the battery does not need to be anywhere near 100% charged for ordinary movement. Should it discharge completely, the time to a full charge is:
- 2–3 days in direct sun.
- 4–8 days under an overcast sky.
A safeguard for unexpected situations: and what if the battery runs flat or the electronics fail unexpectedly? We have thought of that too. The enclosure can be switched to manual mode at any time and moved comfortably by hand until the problem is resolved.
What can the mobile app do?
With the POPP control app your phone works as a remote control. It offers the following functions:
- Opening and closing: A touch on the display slides the enclosure open and closed.
- Overview of data: In the app you can check the current battery level and the temperature under the enclosure at any time.
- Diagnostics: The system records the travel time and the total operating time. When needed, it gives quick access to the service settings.
Technical note: The app communicates over Bluetooth 5.0. It is available for devices running Android (version 9 and higher) and iOS (version 11 and higher).
How much does an enclosure extend the swimming season?
An enclosure extends the swimming season to up to 7 months a year (roughly from April to October) while also reducing the need for additional water heating.
- How the heating works: The air under the structure acts as insulation. During the day the sun warms the water, and at night the heat does not escape.
- Higher temperature: As a result, the water under an enclosure is usually 5 to 8 °C warmer than in an uncovered pool.
- Influence of local conditions: The exact temperature difference depends on sunshine, outdoor temperature, wind, the position of the pool and how often it is opened.
Will I save on heating and chemicals?
Yes. For a typical family pool the total saving is roughly CZK 3,000 to 10,000 per swimming season. An enclosure reduces running costs in two main ways:
- Saving on heating: The enclosure limits evaporation and cooling, especially at night. The water holds its heat longer and the energy needed to heat it goes down.
- Less chemistry and less work: The structure protects the water from leaves, dust and rain and reduces the effect of direct sun. That lowers both chemical consumption and the time spent on maintenance.
- What the saving depends on: The exact amount depends on the heating method, the weather and how the pool is used. For larger or more heavily heated pools the savings are higher still.
Do you also make custom enclosures for atypical pools?
Yes. An atypical pool shape is no obstacle for us. Of our 19 models, 5 are designed specifically for custom solutions. We can adapt to a more demanding space too:
- Atypical features: A raised pool edge, protruding steps or other obstacles do not prevent installation.
- Connection to buildings: We can connect the enclosure functionally straight to the house façade, a retaining wall or a wall.
- Fitting into the terrain: We can match the structure in height and shape to the horizon of the garden.
How demanding is the maintenance?
Maintenance is minimal. The aluminium and polycarbonate structure withstands the weather and needs no complicated care. Just follow these rules:
- Routine washing: Wash the enclosure with clean water and a neutral detergent. Do not use aggressive chemicals, abrasives (liquid scouring agents) or polishes on the panels.
- Clean rails: Sweep leaves and pine needles out of them regularly, or rinse them with a pressure washer. Clogged grooves make the segments harder to move.
- Pressure washing: Keep the nozzle at least 50 cm away from the enclosure. Never aim the jet perpendicularly at joints and seals.
- Protecting the polycarbonate (IMPORTANT): Keep the panels away from sun creams and oils. The substances they contain chemically attack the structure of the polycarbonate and cause irreversible cracking (known as stress cracking of the material).
Can I have salt water under the enclosure?
Yes, you can use salt water without any problem. To preserve the service life of the structure and the materials, you only need to keep an eye on the chemical parameters of the water and not exceed the maximum permitted chlorine concentration (the exact values are set by standard EN 16713-3).
Can one person open the enclosure alone?
Yes, they can. How you handle it depends on the type of control:
- Solar drive: You open and close the enclosure through the mobile app or with a button. Physical strength plays no part.
- Manual sliding: The structure is designed so that even large models can be moved by one person.
- Recommendation for manual sliding: For smooth running and to prevent the segments from skewing in the rails, we recommend moving the enclosure with two people (one on each side). That keeps the movement even and extends the life of the sliding system.
What is the service life of an enclosure?
With ordinary maintenance, an enclosure lasts for decades. The best proof in practice comes from our own installations – enclosures we fitted for customers back in 2006 are still fully functional today.
What if something breaks after the warranty?
You are not buying an enclosure for two seasons, so it matters who will handle any repairs in ten years' time and beyond. Thanks to our own production in Velké Bílovice, you have full support even after the warranty ends:
- Service straight from the manufacturer: We provide post-warranty care, including for our oldest enclosures from 2006.
- Availability of spare parts: We normally keep original parts in stock. If a component is discontinued over the years, we will always design and supply another fully functional solution.
How does an order proceed from enquiry to installation?
We have set the whole process up to be as simple as possible for you. It runs in these steps:
- Enquiry and consultation: Get in touch by phone or through the enquiry form. We will go through your requirements and suggest a suitable model.
- On-site survey: We come to you and measure up the pool free of charge.
- Quotation and contract: Based on the survey we prepare an exact quote and sign the contract.
- Manufacturing: We make the enclosure at our plant in Velké Bílovice. Production time depends on the current season (2 to 3 weeks at the earliest).
- Delivery and installation: We bring the finished enclosure to you and our team installs it completely.
- Handover and training: We demonstrate everything, hand the enclosure over and train you in its operation (including control through the mobile app).
- Service: Our care does not end at handover. We provide full warranty and post-warranty service for all enclosures.
