How to Care for Your Pool Enclosure? Maintenance Is Much Easier Than You Think

You buy a beautiful glazed enclosure – but what about cleaning it? Will you have to run around with a hose and polish every weekend? These questions and worries trouble many a future owner. After all, the idea of perfect relaxation by the pool doesn't include hours spent with a cloth in hand, scrubbing aluminium profiles. An open pool is indeed more demanding to maintain because of the falling debris – but what if the dirt moves onto the structure itself?

We have good news for you: modern premium enclosures have long ceased to be a cleaning nightmare. They are designed to serve you, not for you to serve them. Beauty and elegance are no longer paid for with hard toil. We'll give you basic tips on how to care for the aluminium structure and the panels so that they always look like new and don't cost you any unnecessarily wasted time.

1. Transparent Panels That Almost Clean Themselves

The fundamental building block of every enclosure is the transparent surfaces, whether it's highly resistant safety glass or quality modern polycarbonate. The first and absolutely most important rule when maintaining them is a strict ban on the use of aggressive chemicals.

Definitely forget about:

• rough kitchen sponges and steel wool,
• abrasive cleaning pastes and liquid scourers,
• strong chemical solvents.

These could permanently scratch the surface or irreversibly damage its special protective UV layer. In practice, you'll get by perfectly well with just plain clean water and a soft microfibre cloth. If the surface is more heavily soiled (for example after the spring pollen season), a very weak soapy solution will serve ideally.

The best and fastest approach is to first rinse the panels thoroughly with a gentle jet of water from the hose. This reliably washes away loose dust, pollen and fine sand. If you do this quick rinse regularly – for example after every stronger summer storm or windy day – you'll prevent the most stubborn dirt from settling. This small and simple habit will reliably save you time on maintenance in the future and keep the panels crystal clear in the long term.

2. An Aluminium Structure With No Dust Traps

The load-bearing frame of the pool enclosure itself is made from massive aluminium profiles. These come with the highest-quality surface finish straight from the factory, thanks to which they excellently withstand demanding weather conditions, the alternation of high and low temperatures, ever-present humidity and even the pool chemicals themselves. Care for these frames is therefore absolutely minimalist. In principle, it's enough to lightly wipe them a few times a year with an ordinary damp cloth.

With top models, the thoughtful design itself also meets you halfway. The clean architecture of modern structures uses a sophisticated system of concealed joints. In practice, this means an enormous advantage: on the outer side of the profiles you won't find any unnecessary grooves, protruding screw heads, rivets or deep folds. It is precisely in such hard-to-reach places that, under normal circumstances, dust, cobwebs and hardened dirt would stubbornly cling. A completely smooth and continuous surface without any folds just needs a gentle wipe and it's instantly tidy.

3. Smooth Sliding Without Sticking

The main benefit of a sliding enclosure is the ability to open or close it easily and quietly at any time – literally with one finger. However, for the whole large structure to glide with complete ease, you need to give some basic attention to the running mechanism itself. During summer and autumn, fallen leaves, needles, bark mulch from the flower beds or small stones from the lawn can easily accumulate around the pool. If these mechanical obstacles got directly into the tracks, they could unnecessarily strain the wheels or even block the smooth sliding completely.

If your enclosure has classic running rails, we recommend sweeping them regularly with a soft brush, or vacuuming them with a more powerful vacuum cleaner and occasionally rinsing them thoroughly with water. Today's luxurious, bespoke models, however, often eliminate this step entirely. Their enormous advantage is the barrier-free running, or a sophisticated technical solution with a single unobtrusive guide rail placed away from the main walking surfaces. Where there are no deep grooves in the ground, there is simply nothing to clog. The paving around your pool thus stays beautifully clean, seamless and completely safe.

More Time for Swimming, Less for Cleaning

As you can see for yourself, the myth of endless scrubbing and complicated maintenance no longer applies to modern pool enclosures. Regular care will take you a few minutes a month at most. A bigger clean, which we might call a general clean-up, in fact only needs to be done twice a year:

• In spring: when you prepare the outdoor pool for the new swimming season and rinse off the dust after winter.
• In autumn: when you clean the entire structure of leaves and prepare it for safe winterisation.
